The Test over Our Country Celebrates, Chapter 9, will be March 12th, Friday.  If your child will be absent Friday, the test will be given Thursday.  Below you will find the study guide.  Kids are also encouraged to take a Social Studies book home and also their Social Studies notebooks, as we put important information into our notebooks regarding the test.

 

 

1.  If your town celebrates the Fourth of July like Rapid City, South Dakota, your community celebrates their heritage.

 

2.  The Crowley Rice Festival and Thanksgiving are alike because they both are a harvest festival.

 

3.  Pride in the United States is one thing that all Fourth of July celebrations have in common.

 

VOCABULARY

1. heritage- a people's language, customs, and beliefs. 

2. independent-  able to rule yourself

3. fossils- are the remains of a living thing that died a long time ago.

4. Independence Day- the day Americans celebrate their freedom

5. harvest- the gathering of crops

 

SHORT ANSWER

1. What document explained the reason that the 13 American colonies wanted to be free from Great Britain?  Answer:  The Declaration of Independence
